The Boiler That Whispered Death (Now with Irony)
I Almost Walked Away. Then I Heard It. (And Sighed.)
3 AM. Council flat. Landlord says, "Just cap it." CO reading? 450ppm. Lethal. I should be terrified. Instead I just sighed — the long, tired sigh of a man who’s seen one too many near-murders disguised as plumbing. I turned to the landlord. "Mate," I said, "this boiler is more dangerous than my ex-wife's lawyer." He didn't laugh. I did. Then I ripped it out. Safety first. Comedy second. But both kept that family alive.
A quiet conscience is worth more than a quiet life.
